The Alumnae Board needs your help. Created in 1992, the Sigma
Psi Alumnae Board has played an active role in fostering
sisterhood among actives and alums alike. Of course, the
most unforgettable event hosted with the help and support of
the Board - Sigma Psi Centennial - is still fresh in our minds,
but the Board has a hand in lots of other Sigma Psi activities,
events, and traditions. Currently, alums participate in
advising the active chapter, helping out with Rush,
maintaining the House and leasing arrangements, dealing with
the University in both social and administrative functions,
and organizing alumnae events. In everything we do, we help
carry the torch of Sigma Psi into our next 100 years. We need
your participation! The Alumnae Board is currently seeking
new members and officers for the 2000-2001 session. If
interested, please contact:
Melissa Bien, CWRU '97, LAW '01
Year after year, the active chapter is recognized by the CWRU
Greek Life Office for the strong Alumnae participation we
provide. If you live in the Cleveland area, please take a
moment and give some thought to participation on the Alumnae
Board. It provides a opportunity to help the active chapter,
to pass on some of your experiences and (shall I be so bold)
wisdom, while at the same time we keep the alum network strong.
This is one tradition we don't want to let slip away. |

The Sigma Psi seminar room in Clark Hall was officially dedicated
and opened this past fall. It features a plaque that states who
we are and all that we mean to Case Western Reserve University.
Thank you to all who have made tax deductible donations to the
Sigma Psi/Clark Hall fund. The University is still accepting
donations to help defray the cost for your Sigma Psi Alumnae
Corporation. We made a significant pledge to commemorate our
presence on campus for all time. If you normally make a yearly
donation to CWRU, please consider making it a Sigma Psi/Clark
Hall donation this year. Or consider making a one time contribution
as I did. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation,
please send it to: Michelle C. Soltis Make you check payable to Case Western Reserve University and include "Sigma Psi/Clark Hall" in the memo section. The Alumnae Corporation appreciates your support!

| 21st Annual Mr. CWRU | Top |
|
Sigma Psi will be hosting our 21st annual Mr. CWRU pageant
show at 7:00 on March 4, 2000 in Schmitt Auditorium.
Coordinated by Philanthropy Chairperson Sudha Nallasamy,
with Amy Perreault as the Master of Ceremonies, the event is
hoped to be a great success. We are still in the process of
recruiting contestants. An unprecedented occurrence, the
sponsoring of a contestant by a non-CWRU organization, will
happen this year, as Mongolian Barbecue wishes to enter its
mascot into the event. The proceeds from this year’s Mr. CWRU
will benefit The Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland. The Free Clinic is an organization dedicated to the belief that every individual is entitled to quality health care, regardless of economic position. The clinic provides a variety of services free of charge to a diverse range of clients. These include medical, dental and mental health services, drug abuse and HIV intervention programs, an adolescent clinic, and several community education programs. |

likely your last chance to buy one of these wonderful books.

| Sigma Psi Scholarship | Top |
|
For the past few years, the Alumnae Association has been
awarding scholarships to Sigma Psi actives. The scholarship
covers the active’s rent for one semester. This past fall,
the scholarship was split between two actives: junior Nicole
Schilling and senior Paula Tranbarger. Nicole Schilling, a junior studying chemical engineering, is from Garden City, Kansas. This past fall, she held the offices of formal rush co-chair and house manager. This spring, Nicole holds the office of informal rush chair and is working on revamping the informal rush program so that there is an emphasis on rushing throughout the semester. Nicole also holds the office of Panhellenic Council President. In her spare time, she likes to cook, read, and sit in the hallways talking. Paula Tranbarger is a senior nursing student from Fort Wayne, Indiana. She has held several offices in the sorority, including vice president and exchequer. She is currently working on completing her clinical time in the cardio-thoracic intensive care unit at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. When not in clinicals, she enjoys playing intramural sports, sewing, and drawing. |
| Request for a Piano | Top |
| Do you have a piano in your house that you just don't use anymore? Are you looking to get rid of it? Would you by chance want to donate it to the active chapter? Do you live in or near Cleveland? Please! Let us know! The actives are interested in obtaining a piano for the sorority house and would love your unwanted piano. |
| History Corner | Top |
| My Wade House roommate, Cathy Conroy, and I were the originators of the "Rambling Sigs" song. It sounded a little different then than the last time I heard it! We must admit, however, that we ‘borrowed’ much of it from my cousin who was in a sorority at Youngstown State University. It’s fun to hear that it’s lasted all these years, and that the newer members have adapted it over time. It’s probably a good thing that some of the raunchier songs have faded! |
| Alumnae Picnic | Top |
| The actives will be hosting an alumnae picnic on Sunday, April 16th, from 3-6. It will be at the house, rain or shine. For more information, please contact the alumnae liason, active Beth Spencer. Beth would also appreciate if alumnae would RSVP so that she can plan appropriately. She can be reached at exs82@po.cwru.edu or 216-754-2161. Hope to see everyone there- especially those that have just moved back into the Cleveland area!! |

| Spring Rush | Top |
| This semester, informal rush got off to a great start! The chapter held a coffee night at the local Arabica, a campfire night with s’mores and hot chocolate, a make-your-own-pizza night, a night at the Improv Comedy Club in the Flats, and an ice cream and fondu night. At the end, 10 bids were given out and 9 of them were accepted. Combining this with the two pledges from last semester, the total number of pledges for the spring is 11. After initiation later this spring, the sorority will be at the Panhel cap of 50 members! More informal rush events will be held throughout the semester to encourage sisters to constantly be thinking about rush. |

She was 85. Born in Clearfield, PA, she moved to Cleveland in 1931 to attend Flora Stone Mather College. She graduated in 1935 with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics. She married Herbert E. White, a 1932 alumnus of Adelbert College, in 1933. Mr. White worked at Lincoln Electric Co. until his death in 1960. She late married Edward T. Bartlett II in 1965. He died in 1986. Affectionately called "Sis" by family and friends, Mrs. Bartlett taught high school English for many years at Charles E. Brush high school in Lyndhurst, OH. She was a volunteer at her alma mater and in her community. Mrs. Bartlett was an active member of Sigma Psi sorority, and served as a class reunion and futures committee chair. Lois K. "Jo" Englin ‘46 was devoted to many things in
her life: Girl Scouting, AAUW, exercise and fitness, gardening,
travel, her church, and especially, her family. Mrs. Eglin, 74, a 22 year resident of Timberlake and former resident of Euclid, died of cancer on September 28, 1998, after a brief illness. Born in Lancaster, Ohio, she grew up in Columbus, attended MacMurray College in Illinois and graduated from Flora Stone Mather College in 1946. Mrs. Eglin was a registered Girl Scout for over 50 years. She joined the organization as a child, and after volunteering as an adult for many years, went on to a 20 year professional career with the Girl Scouts of Lake Erie Council, continuing to serve on council committees after her retirement. She was a charter member of the Euclid Branch of AAUW and served as President, Treasurer, Fellowship Chairman, and Membership Chairman. Mrs. Eglin was a well-known figure at the Lake County YMCA where she regularly attended step aerobics classes. Her interest in fitness led to her participation in the Senior Olympics in which she won several gold medals at the regional level for swimming and walking. At her home in Timberlake, Mrs. Eglin created a "nature center" that delighted all who passed by with beautiful blooms and unusual greenery. Mrs. Eglin also enjoyed travel, especially to the mountains of the Western states, where she loved to hike. A devout Christian, Mrs. Eglin recently became a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in Euclid, after belonging to Euclid Lutheran Church for over 30 years. Mrs. Eglin was most devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren. Her greatest joy was to be surrounded by them, enjoying their company, and to be able to prepare their favorites foods. Mrs. Eglin’s husband, Blake G., died in 1975. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Morgan of LaGrange, daughter and son-in-law Harriet and Gary Muetzel of Parma, grandchildren Sean Morgan, Travis Morgan, Kellie Muetzel, and Jason Muetzel, and her dear friend Susan Sheffer of Timberlake.
